Oz is now 4 months old and we are 5 weeks post lip repair! In all honesty, and you can easily decipher this from my previous blog posts, the last 4 months have not been easy for Oz and therefore, our family. Between feeding challenges, silent reflux, dairy intolerance, sleep problems, surgery and recovery, it has felt like we have been playing an unending game of 'Whac-A-Mole' where we would address one issue [or realistically, several at a time] and a different one arose.
My superstitious self is apprehensive to state the following, fearing I may jinx the current status, but I'm much too excited to hold back ... minus 3 mL daily of Omeprazole for GERD and the 4 month vaccine protocol we got yesterday, we are currently mole free and are achieving our highest score yet!
Oz is still on EleCare formula, but was increased from 20 to 22 calories per ounce at our February GI appointment. Since our last appointment, Oz has gained some full cheeks, squishy legs and check on those hand rolls [insert heart eyes emoji here]! He was 12 lb. 5 oz at our weight check in February and I'm anticipating a healthy increase at our weigh-in next week! As disappointed as I was to stop breastmilk and as much as I'd like to forego the million dollar canisters of formula we go through at lighting speed, I'm ultimately happy that Oz is happy and we will continue to follow our GI's guidance in management of his dairy intolerance and reflux.
Oz will not see Dr.Munson (surgeon) until late this summer when he will evaluate Oz and discuss preparation for palate surgery (tentatively planned for October/November). In the meantime, we are instructed to massage Oz's scar with prescribed scar cream for 10-20 seconds a day for a month's time. Oz does NOT like this and honestly it makes me a little queasy in thinking about the discomfort he experiences, so I'm thankful Derek has taken the lead in doing this regime!
As it is for everyone, it's only a matter of time until life's next mole pops up its ugly mug and with Oz especially, we fully anticipate future periods of mole infestation, but this momentary hiatus has granted us a few days of of restful sleeps and FINALLY a happy baby! WINNING!
